Johan Haris started dancing 9 years ago in Malaysia, Kari 5 years ago when she spent time living and learning dance in Cuba and the Dominican Republic. In 2009 they started teaching and performing together as part of Adelaide’s Latin Dance Nation dance academy.
Since then they have become 2 times South Australian Professional Bachata champions, South Australian team champions and achieved 2nd place in the Australian Bachata Championships (teams division). They teach and perform at some of Australia’s most prestigious latin events and this year were guest artists at the Los Angeles International Bachata Festival. They are soon to travel to Hawaii to teach and perform at the Hawaii Bachata Festival 2011.
With a sexy and elegant style, the couple combines elements of traditional, Dominican and modern bachata styles, as well as zouk, contemporary and ballroom influences. Kari and Johan also teach and perform salsa, zouk and zumba, and are both studying masters degrees.
